Fox News poll: Biden leads by 15 points on who is more ‘honest and trustworthy’
Democratic nominee Joe Biden leads President Trump by 15 points on the question of which candidate is “honest and trustworthy,” according to a Fox News poll released Sunday.
Fifty-two percent of respondents said they found Biden honest and trustworthy, compared to 37 percent who said the same of Trump. Forty-five percent of respondents said Biden was not honest or trustworthy, compared to 60 percent who said Trump was not.
Trump received the same marks on honesty and trustworthiness in polling ahead of his victory in the 2016 election. However, unlike the new survey, then-Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton received worse ratings on the same question in 2016, with 33 percent saying she was honest and trustworthy compared to 64 percent who said she was not.
Biden was also ahead by a smaller margin on whether viewers perceive that he “cares about you.” Fifty-six percent said this was true of Biden, compared to 43 percent who said the same for Trump.
The survey also found that more respondents perceive Trump versus Biden as corrupt and too close to political extremists, two lines of attack Trump has attempted to apply to the former vice president. Forty percent of voters perceive Biden as corrupt compared to 56 percent who say the same of Trump. Thirty-seven percent said Biden was too close to extremists, while 53 percent said the same of Trump.
Overall, the survey found Biden leading Trump 52 percent to 44 percent in a head-to-head matchup, slightly down from 53-43 percent in early October.
The candidates were statistically tied on who would best handle the economy, with 49 percent saying Trump and 48 percent saying Biden. It found a much wider gulf on who voters trusted to handle the coronavirus pandemic, with 56 percent saying Biden and 40 percent saying Trump.
Pollsters surveyed 1,318 registered voters, including 1,246 likely voters, between Oct. 27-29. The poll has a 2.5-point margin of error.
