The House Democrats’ campaign arm will spend $275,000 on Archie Parnell, the Democratic candidate in South Carolina’s House special election.
“This investment will help turn out – and provide key lessons on – crucial voters for South Carolina’s 5th Congressional District and the 2018 midterms more broadly,” Cole Leiter, a Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) spokesman, said in a Monday statement to The Post and Courier.
“We’re proud to make this investment in organizing staff, African-American radio, mail, digital and other targeted voter outreach in the final weeks of this campaign and support a candidate like Archie Parnell who will stand up and fight for the smart, responsible kind of leadership this community needs.”
{mosads}The DCCC’s investment will particularly focus on faith communities over the next two Sundays before the June 20 special election, The Post and Courier reported.
The DCCC is also reportedly paying the salaries of three full-time field organizers for the Parnell campaign between Monday and Election Day.
Parnell, a former Goldman Sachs senior adviser, is competing against former State Rep. Ralph Norman (R) for a House seat vacated by Mick Mulvaney.
Mulvaney, now the director of the Office of Budget and Management (OMB), had held the seat since 2011.
The special elections to fill the seats of President Trump’s Cabinet members have attracted national attention.
Democrats are looking to cast the contests as a referendum on Trump and make early gains before the 2018 midterm elections.
Trump won South Carolina by more than 18 points in 2016, suggesting Mulvaney’s former seat there is considered likely to remain in GOP hands.
