Barletta to announce Senate bid Tuesday: report

Rep. Lou Barletta (R-Pa.) will announce his entrance into the Pennsylvania Senate GOP primary early Tuesday morning, the Times Leader reported Monday evening.

The announcement will be through a video statement, the report said.

Barletta, who was an early backer of President Trump, will enter a race that so far includes two Pennsylvania Republican state representatives. The winner of the primary will ultimately face off against incumbent Sen. Bob Casey (D-Pa.).

Earlier this month, the Pennsylvania Democratic Party filed an ethics complaint against Barletta, alleging he misused official resources during discussions of a potential bid for Senate.

During an interview in his district office, Barletta told a local affiliate that he had “been looking at it very seriously,” referencing a Senate bid. In the background of the interview, the official House seal is within view.
