DeSantis, aides uninjured in car accident while traveling to campaign event

Republican presidential candidate Ron DeSantis’s campaign said the Florida governor and some members of his team were involved in a car accident while en route to a campaign event on Tuesday.

DeSantis and his team were uninjured, according to his campaign.

The event occurred while DeSantis and his team were on their way to a fundraiser in Chattanooga, Tenn., with several other stops planned for Franklin and Knoxville, according to the Chattooga Times Free Press.

“We appreciate the prayers and well wishes of the nation for his continued protection while on the campaign trail,” said Bryan Griffin, press secretary for DeSantis’s campaign.

Chattanooga police said that the incident occurred on Interstate 75 South and involved a rear-end collision, according to the Chattanooga Times Free Press. Only one female staffer sustained a minor injury from the incident, police said.

“The motorcade came up on slow traffic, and the lead vehicle had to brake quickly, which caused a rear-end collision involving the other vehicles,” a press release from Chattanooga police said, according to the news outlet. “All the vehicles involved were government vehicles accompanying Gov. DeSantis and his team to his scheduled event.”

The Hill has followed up with DeSantis’s campaign for more information.
