Biden campaign bashes Trump’s interview with Tucker Carlson

President Biden’s reelection campaign bashed former President Trump’s sit-down with ex-Fox News host Tucker Carlson on Wednesday, calling it a softball interview for him to double down on conspiracy theories.

“In his softball ‘interview’ posting tonight, Donald Trump will again make clear that he’s running on the same extreme and deeply unpopular MAGA agenda the American people have rejected time and time again,” spokesperson Kevin Munoz said in a statement first released to The Hill.

The sit-down, which was taped several days ago, will be released Wednesday night just as the Republican presidential primary debate in Milwaukee is set to begin on Fox News. Trump, the GOP front-runner, opted to skip the debate, citing his significant lead in the polls as a primary reason.

“Instead of explaining his broken promises to Wisconsin and the 13,000 Foxconn manufacturing jobs that never were, we’ll likely hear him double down on his most out-of-touch positions, including his support for wild, debunked conspiracy theories and a national abortion ban,” Munoz said, referring to the Foxconn factories shuttering in Wisconsin.

The Biden campaign also criticized the other candidates for doing “impressions” of Trump, expressing optimism in the general election.

“That same extreme and unpopular agenda will be on display in Milwaukee later tonight by MAGA Republican candidates doing their best impressions of Donald Trump,” he said. “The American people rejected these extreme ideas in 2018, 2020, and 2022 — and they will again in November 2024.”

Biden on Wednesday said he has no expectations for the debate but will try to tune into as much as he can. The president is on vacation in Lake Tahoe, Nev.

“I’m going to try to see — get as much as I can,” he told reporters.

The Biden campaign on Tuesday said it hasn’t talked about a potential general election debate against Trump in light of him missing the first Republican primary debate.

The campaign also said that the president doesn’t plan on responding to anything the candidates say on the stage on Wednesday.
