Trump rips Hurd after former congressman pulls out of White House race: ‘It’s about time!’

Former President Trump criticized former Texas Rep. Will Hurd (R) after Hurd announced he was dropping out of the 2024 presidential race, saying “it’s about time.”

“It’s about time! Will Hurd, the failed former Congressman from the great State of Texas, who decided not to run for Congress again because he did an ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE JOB (ZERO Personality!), and couldn’t win, has just now decided to drop out of the 2024 Presidential Campaign where he, likewise, drew ‘flies!’” Trump wrote late Monday on Truth Social.

Hurd threw his support behind former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley, arguing the Republican Party needed to consolidate “around one person to defeat both Donald Trump and President Biden.”

The former lawmaker was notably missing from the stage for the first two GOP debates, unable to meet the Republican National Committee’s (RNC) criteria to participate. He has also largely trailed the other Republicans in polling.

On Monday, he made the decision to withdraw from the GOP primary race.

“Unfortunately, it has become clear to me and my team that the time has come to suspend our campaign,” Hurd wrote in a lengthy post on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Trump mocked the Texas Republican for supporting Haley.

“He is a nasty and jealous guy, who truly doesn’t have what it takes,” he wrote. ” Luckily for him, he couldn’t make the Debate Stage, but went out with a bang — He endorsed Birdbrain!” Trump said, referencing the nickname he gave to the former South Carolina governor after the second GOP debate.

Haley, however, thanked Hurd for his endorsement online.

“America is at a crossroads and it’s time to come together and make Joe Biden a one-term president,” she said. “Thank you @WillHurd for your support and confidence. We have a country to save!”
