Schiff touts endorsements from majority of California House Dems

Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.).

Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) has been endorsed by the majority of House Democrats representing California, in the highly competitive race to fill the Senate seat vacated by the late Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.).

“California’s next Senator needs to be ready to deliver on day one — and I’m proud to have the support of so many of my colleagues in this race!” he said in a post on X, formerly Twitter, on Monday.

Schiff’s campaign has touted the endorsements of 23 California House Democrats, according to his campaign website. There are 40 Democrats and 12 Republicans representing California in the House.

In the open primary for a seat that Feinstein held for decades, Schiff faces stiff competition, primarily from Rep. Katie Porter (D-Calif.), who has rivaled Schiff in the latest poll numbers.

In a poll among likely voters conducted in late October by the University of California, Berkeley, Porter had a slight edge on Schiff, leading him 17 percent to 16 percent. The poll marked a dip from the previous poll, conducted in August, when Schiff led Porter, 20 percent to 17 percent.

Rep. Barbara Lee (D-Calif.) is also running for the contentious seat. She polled at 9 percent in late October, up slightly from 7 percent in August.

Schiff has amplified his high-profile endorsements in his campaign efforts, most notably by Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.). Schiff has also been endorsed by California Democratic Reps. Ted Lieu and Eric Swalwell, among many others.
