Christie doesn’t rule out working with Haley to defeat Trump in GOP primary

GOP presidential candidate Chris Christie on Sunday did not rule out working with former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley to defeat former President Trump in the GOP primary as the former president remains the clear front-runner.

“I’m working on defeating Donald Trump, and I’m the only one in the race who is working on defeating Donald Trump,” he said on CBS’s “Face the Nation” when asked if he would ever work with Haley to defeat Trump.

“When she hasn’t ruled out being his vice president, I don’t think you could take her as a serious contender against him,” he continued. “[Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis] and I have both ruled out accepting the vice presidency from Donald Trump. Nikki Haley [has] not. That’s why she’s not saying strong things against Donald Trump, why she’s saying he’s fit to be president of the United States.”

Christie took aim at Haley on Sunday for her recent comments saying that Trump was fit to be president, pointing to his recent praise of Russian President Vladimir Putin as a reason why Trump should not serve another term in the White House.

“She won’t answer questions about Donald Trump,” he said about Haley. “In fact, you know, she said just this week that he’s fit to be president. This is a guy who last night in New Hampshire, used Vladimir Putin as a character witness for the decaying democracy in America, Vladimir Putin is an expert in democracy. And someone who says that is fit to be president [of the] United States, it’s ridiculous.”

He also criticized a recent poll that showed Haley surging in the state of New Hampshire, saying that it was a “foolish” survey.
