Kinzinger says Christians who back Trump ‘don’t understand’ their religion
Former Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.) bashed former President Trump online and said Christians who support him “don’t understand” their religion.
“I’m going to go out on a NOT limb here: this man is not a Christian,” Kinzinger said on X, formerly known as Twitter, responding to Trump’s Christmas post. “If you are a Christian who supports him you don’t understand your own religion.”
Kinzinger, one of Trump’s fiercest critics in the GOP, said in his post that “Trump is weak, meager, smelly, victim-ey, belly-achey, but he ain’t a Christian and he’s not ‘God’s man.’”
Kinzinger has become isolated from most of the Republican Party after serving on the House select committee that investigated the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol. He did not seek reelection in 2022.
In an unusual Christmas message on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump called for various people he sees as “looking to destroy” the country to “rot in Hell.”
The former president took a stab at President Biden, special counsel Jack Smith and others in his holiday post.
“Merry Christmas to all, including Crooked Joe Biden’s ONLY HOPE, Deranged Jack Smith, the out of control Lunatic who just hired outside attorneys, fresh from the SWAMP (unprecedented!), to help him with his poorly executed WITCH HUNG against ‘TRUMP’ and ‘MAGA,’” Trump’s post said.
Trump has repeatedly gone after Smith, who is prosecuting him over his actions related to the 2020 election and the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol. In his post, he also went after world leaders and American lawmakers.
“Included also are World Leaders, both good and bad, but none of which are as evil and ‘sick’ as the THUGS we have inside our Country who, with their Open Borders, INFLATION, Afghanistan Surrender, Green New Scam, High Taxes, No Energy Independence, Woke Military, Russia/Ukraine, Israel/Iran, All Electric Car Lunacy, and so much more, are looking to destroy our once great USA. MAY THEY ROT IN HELL. AGAIN, MERRY CHRISTMAS!” the former president concluded.
Trump remains the GOP’s favorite to win the nomination for the upcoming election. He has a 52.4 percent lead based on an aggregation of more than 300 polls, according to The Hill’s partner Decision Desk HQ. Trump also leads Biden by 2 percent based on more than 500 polls.
