‘View’ host says Trump ballot ban creates ‘visual’ of ‘a rigged election’

“The View” host Sara Haines said Tuesday that banning former President Trump from states’ 2024 primary ballots gives the appearance of “a rigged election.”

Haines argued on Tuesday’s episode of “The View” that the recent decisions in Colorado and Maine to remove the former president from the ballot will only push more people to believe that voting systems are unfair.

Haines added she agreed with former Obama adviser David Axelrod and California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D), who each warned last month that removing Trump from the ballot could divide the country and that the election should be decided by the voters.

“What will happen is that martyrdom will be one step more. We have a nation that doesn’t believe in democracy, doesn’t believe in the voting,” Haines said. “Everyone that loses says it was rigged and failed. I think this will create a vision — a visual to people that this was a rigged election.”

She also predicted that the Supreme Court would unanimously rule in Trump’s favor.

“I don’t think the Supreme Court is going to hold this. I think they’re gonna overturn it, and it won’t just be the originalists. I bet it’s a 9-0  vote. I actually don’t think they will hold this,” she said.

Co-host Joy Behar disagreed with Haines, saying that she believes the “law will stand” if the Supreme Court takes up the case.

“If you’re not going to follow an amendment, then why don’t we have Taylor Swift run for President?” Behar said.

Trump was removed from the ballot in Colorado and Maine last month under the “insurrection clause” of the 14th Amendment. They were the first two states to kick the former president off the ballot, meaning that more states could remove Trump if the Supreme Court holds up the recent decisions.

Trump appealed the decision Tuesday in Maine to ban him from the state’s primary ballot. He is expected to also appeal the decision in Colorado.
