Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) is backing Trump ally Bernie Moreno in the race for his home state’s Senate seat.
Moreno announced Jordan’s support in a post on X, formerly Twitter, on Monday as Republicans hope to flip the seat held by Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) in the upcoming election.
In a statement from Moreno’s campaign, Jordan said he is “proud” to stand alongside former President Trump and Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio) in endorsing Moreno.
“Bernie is a true America First conservative, and will make us proud in the U.S. Senate,” Jordan said in the statement, of the wealthy Cleveland businessman.
“Our country needs common sense conservative fighters now more than ever. Bernie is a political outsider who has lived the American Dream. His perspective, his grit and his conservative values will serve Ohio well in the U.S. Senate.”
Moreno said on X he was honored to have received Jordan’s endorsement.
“Jim knows that to save America, we must retake the Senate. That’s why so many conservatives are uniting around our outsider campaign to finally retire Sherrod Brown. Time to put America First!” Moreno said.
The endorsements from Jordan, Trump and Vance will likely boost support for Moreno in the Ohio GOP primary race for Senate. Moreno is currently vying for the Republican nomination against Frank LaRose, who serves as Ohio’s secretary of state, and state Sen. Matt Dolan.
But polls show he faces a tough race against Brown in the general election. According to an Emerson College Polling/WJW-TV Fox 8 Cleveland poll released in November, Brown beat Moreno in a hypothetical election with 42 percent of support to Moreno’s 32 percent.
The poll also showed Brown beating the other candidates, but with smaller margins.
