Carroll says she’ll do anything she can to help Biden beat Trump

Writer E. Jean Carroll, whose defamation case against former President Trump resulted in a whopping $83.3 million verdict Friday, said in a Monday interview she would do anything she could to prevent Trump from retaking the White House.

In an interview Monday on “CBS Mornings,” Carroll said she had not heard from President Biden’s reelection team about joining the campaign’s efforts against Trump, the front-runner for this year’s GOP presidential nomination.

“I’ll do anything I can,” Carroll said when asked whether she would be interested in helping the Biden team.

Carroll, in the Monday interview, compared Trump to the protagonist of the cautionary tale, “The Emperor’s New Clothes,” in that he only has power because of his followers.

“Well, Hans Christian Andersen’s great fairy tale, ‘The Emperor Has No Clothes?’ That is written about Donald Trump. It’s just we’re the ones who clothe him in all this power. He has none himself; it’s his followers. It’s his hangers-on,” Carroll said.

“In the court, they were strutting back and forth and handing him messages,” she noted.

Trump was found liable last year for sexually abusing and defaming Carroll, resulting in a $5 million verdict. The Friday verdict addressed only defamation.

In a separate CNN interview Monday, Carroll predicted Trump would lose the upcoming presidential election.

“Oh, please. I can’t think of that. I can’t think of that. I don’t think — I don’t think it’s gonna happen,” she said, about Trump’s reelection prospects.

Trump is facing four criminal indictments, for a total of 91 felony charges against him.

He seems likely to be the GOP nominee for president despite the legal problems. He’s won the Iowa caucuses and New Hampshire primary, and leads former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley by 56.8 points according to The Hill/Decision Desk HQ’s national polling average.
