Meghan McCain rejects Kari Lake’s walkback of John McCain criticism: ‘No peace, b‑‑‑‑’

Meghan McCain, the daughter of late Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), went after Arizona Republican Senate candidate Kari Lake on Tuesday, blasting Lake’s attempts to dismiss previous insults against her dad as having been meant as jokes.

“Kari Lake is trying to walk back her continued attacks on my Dad (& family) and all of his loyal supporters after telling them to ‘get the hell out,’” McCain said Tuesday in a post on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.

“Guess she realized she can’t become a Senator without us,” McCain continued. “No peace, bitch. We see you for who you are – and are repulsed by it.”

At a campaign event in 2022 while running for governor of the Grand Canyon State, Lake — a vocal supporter of former President Trump, who himself was regularly critical of John McCain — had asked, “We don’t have any McCain Republicans in here, do we? Get the hell out!”

The GOP, she added at the time, “was the party of McCain. It was bad. Arizona has delivered some losers, haven’t they?”

In a Monday interview on “Outspoken with Bruce and Gaydos” on KTAR News 92.3 FM, Lake said, “It was said in jest. And I think that if John McCain, who had a great sense of humor, would have heard it, he would have laughed.”

“I want everyone’s vote, whether you are a McCain … if you call yourself a McCain Republican, if you call yourself a middle-of-the-road Republican, a Trump Republican, an America First Republican, I want your vote, and guess what? I want independents’ votes as well, and I want disaffected Democrats — and there’s a lot of them who are waking up and saying, ‘This is not working out,’” she added.

In the interview, Lake was also questioned about her claims that her 2022 gubernatorial election was stolen.

“The elections are run poorly. They’re — they’re run very poorly, and I don’t know who exactly stole the election, but there are a lot of people who are running elections poorly, and we’ve seen the results,” she said.

Lake is running for the seat currently held by Independent Sen. Kyrsten Sinema, who has not yet announced if she is seeking reelection. Also vying for the seat is Democratic Arizona Rep. Ruben Gallego.
