RFK Jr. says Biden needs to prove his ‘mental acuity’

Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said President Biden needs to prove he has the “mental acuity” to handle another term in the White House.

“I think he needs to come out of the White House and show Americans that he has the cognitive capacity to — and the mental acuity to handle his job at probably the most challenging time now, at least in recent American history,” he told anchor Martha MacCallum on Fox News’s “The Story.”

“This is a crisis. We need a president who is thinking about these things, who is articulating the solution for the American people,” he added.

When pressed on whether he has the confidence Biden “can serve,” Kennedy Jr. suggested Americans may not believe that.

“Our children’s lives are dependent on that 3:00 a.m. call. And we need to know that we have a president who can wake up in the middle of the night and who is on his feet and thinking about those things,” he said.

“I think a lot of Americans have lost confidence in that,” he added.

Kennedy Jr. initially challenged Biden in the Democratic presidential primary but has since filed to run as an independent candidate.

Biden continues to face questions about his age and mental fitness as he seeks a second term in the White House. The Biden campaign and the White House have defended the president amid concerns about his age, especially after the report from special counsel Robert Hur that described him as a “well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory.”

“I’m well-meaning, and I’m an elderly man, and I know what the hell I’m doing. I’ve been president, I put this country back on its feet. I don’t need his recommendation,” Biden told reporters in fiery remarks following the unveiling of the report.

When asked about his age on NBC’s “Late Night With Seth Meyers” earlier this week, Biden said what really matters is “how old your ideas are.”

The Hill has reached out to Biden’s campaign for comment.
