Britt to deliver GOP response to Biden State of the Union address

Sen. Katie Britt (R-Ala.) will deliver the Republican response to President Biden’s State of the Union address next week.

“I am truly honored and grateful for the opportunity to speak directly to my fellow Americans on March 7. We’ll have a candid conversation about the future of our nation — and I’ll outline the Republican vision to secure the American Dream for generations to come,” Britt wrote on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.

Britt was sworn into office last year after being endorsed by former President Trump in her Senate race, becoming the first woman elected to represent Alabama in the U.S. Senate.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) also announced the news on X. Britt joined McConnell’s leadership team as an informal adviser last year.

“Glad to announce with @SpeakerJohnson that @SenKatieBrittwill deliver the Republican address to the nation next Thursday. The American people will hear from an unapologetic optimist fighting to secure a stronger future and leave Washington Democrats’ failures behind,” McConnell said.

Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) wrote on X that the “American people will tune in as the youngest Republican woman ever elected to the Senate turns the page on the oldest President in history.”

The opposite party of the president traditionally delivers remarks in response to the annual speech each year. Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders (R), a former White House spokesperson for Trump, issued the GOP’s response to Biden’s State of the Union speech last year.
