Trump wins Alaska GOP primary
Former President Trump will win Alaska’s Republican presidential primary, according to a projection from Decision Desk HQ.
The GOP front-runner notched another win in what was the state where polls closed the latest on a busy Super Tuesday. The state’s 29 delegates are allocated proportionally based on how well a candidate performs, but Trump will take at least a majority of the delegates there.
Trump was able to overcome the state’s senior senator, Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R), issuing a late endorsement of his last remaining Republican challenger Nikki Haley. The former president had endorsements from Gov. Mike Dunleavy (R) and the state’s other senator, Dan Sullivan (R).
Trump fell short in the state’s 2016 primary, losing to Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas). The primary was canceled in 2020 when Trump was an incumbent, and the Alaska Republican Party awarded all delegates to Trump.
The former president has already had a strong night that saw him come out as a clear winner of the GOP primaries Tuesday, putting him in a position to officially clinch the Republican nomination as soon as next week.
