Adam Schiff’s bags stolen from parked car before San Francisco dinner party

Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) speaks during a House Judiciary Committee field hearing, April 17, 2023, in New York.

Rep. Adam Schiff’s (D-Calif.) bags were stolen from his parked car before a San Francisco dinner party Thursday.

Schiff, who is running for California’s Senate seat, was in the Bay Area for a couple of days when his luggage got taken from his car parked at a downtown garage.

The burglary left the congressman in his shirtsleeves, wearing a hiking vest over a dark blue shirt and gray pants while most other attendees were dressed in suits.

The dinner was attended by attorney Joe Cotchett whom Schiff expressed gratitude for backing him to replace the late Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), according to the San Francisco Chronicle, which first reported about the incident.

The California Democrat, who is vying for the upper chamber against former baseball star Steve Garvey (R), appeared not to be disturbed by the theft.

“Yes, they took my bags,” Schiff told the Chronicle. “But I’m here to thank Joe.”

When asked further by The Hill regarding the incident, Schiff’s office said it had no further comment while the investigation takes place.

San Francisco has been in the spotlight in recent years for its crime rate, although property and violent crimes have dipped by double digits during the first quarter of this year.

Car burglaries dropped the most from the past year, by 35 percent, the Chronicle reported.
