Trump Jr. says Navarro in ‘good spirits’ after prison visit

Donald Trump Jr. said Peter Navarro is in “good spirits” after visiting him at a federal prison in Miami, ABC News reported Monday.

Navarro was sentenced to four months in prison in January after being found guilty of two counts of contempt of Congress. The former Trump campaign adviser ignored a subpoena issued by the House Jan. 6 Committee.

Trump Jr. told ABC News it’s “important to show support” for Navarro, confirming his visit, adding that he believes Navarro is wrongly convicted.

Navarro repeatedly argued against his conviction in court, claiming that his refusal to testify to Congress was protected by executive privilege. The Supreme Court declined to take his case late last month. He reported to prison in March. 

Fellow Trump campaign adviser Steve Bannon, who also ignored a subpoena from the committee, was similarly convicted of contempt. His conviction was upheld by a federal appeals court Friday.

Bannon was also sentenced to four months in prison, but has not yet served the sentence, pending appeal.
