Haley draws support from Trump in Maryland, Nebraska, West Virginia primaries

Former GOP presidential candidate Nikki Haley garnered significant shares of the vote in three Republican primaries Tuesday, despite dropping out of the race more than two months ago.

In Maryland, Haley brought in 20 percent of the vote, leaving former President Trump with 80 percent, according to election results from Decision Desk HQ. In Nebraska, she garnered 18 percent to Trump’s 80.1 percent, and the former United Nations ambassador nabbed 9.4 percent of the vote in West Virginia compared to the former president’s 88.4 percent.

Haley, who suspended her presidential campaign in March, also picked up support in Indiana last week, bringing in 21.7 of the Hoosier State’s primary vote. In Pennsylvania’s primary last month, she also received more than 150,000 votes.

The numbers are helping fuel the speculation the former ambassador has faced over her next steps, including rumors that she could join Trump’s bid to recapture the White House as his running mate. While a report over the weekend from Axios suggested she was under consideration, Trump denounced the notion in a Truth Social post the same day.

“Nikki Haley is not under consideration for the V.P. slot, but I wish her well!” the former president wrote.

Haley did not endorse Trump after dropping her bid for the White House, instead arguing that he needed to earn the support of her voters.

President Biden and his campaign have made moves to attempt to woo those potential voters into his camp, because it appears there is a significant share of Republican voters who do not wish to back Trump.

“Donald Trump made it clear he doesn’t want Nikki Haley’s supporters,” Biden said in March. “I want to be clear: There is a place for them in my campaign.”
