Trump wins Oregon GOP primary

Former President Trump has won Oregon’s Republican presidential primary, according to a projection from Decision Desk HQ. 

Trump is already the presumptive GOP nominee, but the Beaver State could add as many 31 more delegates into his column as he heads toward a rematch with President Biden, who is expected to easily win the state’s Democratic primary, this fall. 

Oregon has voted blue in every presidential election since the mid 1980s, and its eight electoral college votes are considered solidly Democrat — though some Republicans saw hope when Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer (R-Ore.) flipped the state’s Fifth congressional district in the midterms.

The Democratic primary race for Chavez-DeRemer’s seat is also on Tuesday’s ballot, as two Democrats battle to take on the incumbent in November. Another key race is in Oregon’s Third, where Susheela Jayapal, the sister of U.S. Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-Wa.) is vying to succeed retiring Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-Ore.).

There was reportedly some voter confusion over whether Trump would be on Oregon’s ballot, as a statement from the former president didn’t appear alongside Biden’s in the pamphlet sent out to all voters in the state. The Trump campaign did not submit a statement to be included in the pamphlet, according to local outlet KGW.
