Mace says Trump ‘very excited’ about her primary win

Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) said former President Trump is “very excited” about her recent primary win.

Mace touted her relationship with the former president Wednesday on Fox News’s “Your World with Neil Cavuto” after clinching a win in her primary race Tuesday night despite facing some criticism from members of the Republican Party as well as a GOP challenger to her seat.

“I actually spoke to him last night. He gave us a call. He was very excited,” she told host Neil Cavuto when asked about her relationship with Trump.

“And he was a big part of our election. Without his support — I mean, he’s one of the strongest endorsers out there today. And we were one of the biggest races that he won last night with his endorsement,” she added.

She won the primary for her House seat in South Carolina’s 1st Congressional District on Tuesday night, fending off challenger Catherine Templeton and avoiding a runoff amid backlash from some Republicans.

Mace has faced some blowback from members of her own party after she became one of just eight Republicans to vote to oust former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) from his leadership post last year. She has also faced criticism for her shifting support for Trump since he lost the 2020 election and since the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot.

After the attack on the Capitol, Mace said the Republican Party needed to be “rebuilt” and that Trump’s “entire legacy was wiped out.” She ended up endorsing the former president earlier this year, saying at the time that it was time to unite behind one candidate.
