President Biden’s reelection campaign is planning to launch ads during the Copa América soccer tournament to engage Latino voters, particularly in battleground states.
The seven-figure media blitz during the tournament will focus on television, radio, and digital platforms in battleground states and the national market with English and Spanish ads, according to the campaign.
The campaign begins Thursday with a 30-second ad titled “Gooaalll!” that bashes Trump for his administration’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Four years ago, we were shut down, stadiums were empty, Trump failed us. But then Joe Biden took over. He reopened the country and got us back on track,” the ad reads. “Trump talks and talks. Joe Biden gets s‑‑‑ done.”
The campaign is also planning to host watch parties with surrogates for the games and will hand out Biden-Harris 2024/Copa América branded signs, T-shirts, and banners.
The U.S. team is set to play Bolivia on Sunday in the group stage of the tournament.
The new media blitz aimed at Latinos comes as Biden announced a massive immigration executive order earlier this week, which allows certain immigrants lacking documentation who are married to U.S. citizens to stay in the country and work legally.
The campaign also unveiled an ad focused on Latinos last month, which was focused on health care and delivered in Spanglish. The ad accused Republicans of cozying up to corporate interests while highlighting lower insulin costs under Biden.
