Trump Jr. says he wants ‘veto power’ in staffing second Trump term

Former President Trump’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., said Tuesday he would like “veto power” over staffing decisions in a hypothetical second Trump administration.

“I don’t want to pick a single person for a position of power. All I want to do is block the guys that would be a disaster,” Trump Jr. said in an interview with Axios’s Mike Allen, on the sidelines of the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee.

Allen asked the former president’s son what role he expects to play in a hypothetical transition between Election Day and Inauguration Day, when, Allen said, “the staff and appointees and nominees are picked.”

Trump Jr. continued: “I want to block the liars. I want to block the guys that are, you know, pretending they’re with you. I just want to block the bad actors. I just want to be a block. That’s it.”

“You guys pick the guy, that’s right. I want a veto power to cut out each and every one of those people,” he added.

Trump Jr. has raised money and rallied for his father during this campaign cycle, and reports indicate he personally vouched for Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio) to be chosen as Trump’s running mate.

Trump was officially nominated to lead the GOP presidential ticket on Monday, after announcing Vance as his choice for vice president.
