Harris says she hasn’t chosen her running mate yet but is expected to travel with them next week

Vice President Harris said Tuesday that she hasn’t yet chosen her running mate for the 2024 presidential ticket.

When reporters asked if she had made her selection, the likely Democratic nominee responded, “Not yet.”

Harris and her running mate pick are expected to travel to battleground states next week, a source familiar with plans confirmed to The Hill.

The Democratic National Committee (DNC) expects Harris to select her running mate before Aug. 7. She will officially become the nominee as early as Thursday when Democrats move forward with a virtual roll-call vote.

Harris spoke to reporters as she was leaving for Georgia to hold a rally in Atlanta later in the day.

Democrats Gov. Josh Shapiro (Pa.) and Sen. Mark Kelly (Ariz.) have been floated as potential running mates for Harris, while others like Gov. Tim Walz (Minn.), Gov. Andy Beshear (Ky.) and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg have emerged as top contenders.

Harris is trailing former President Trump by less than 2 points, according to an aggregation of polls from Decision Desk HQ/The Hill. Harris has performed at least somewhat better than President Biden did against Trump before the president stepped aside last week.
