Vice President Harris and her newly-announced running mate Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) arrive for their first rally at the Liacouras Center at Temple University in Philadelphia, Pa., on Tuesday, August 6, 2024.

The Teamsters National Black Caucus (TNBC) endorsed Vice President Harris for the White House on Tuesday, according to a statement posted to social media.

The TNBC’s executive board announced the endorsement in a press release posted on Facebook. It comes as the union as a whole has stopped short of endorsing any candidate in the presidential race yet.

The caucus praised Harris and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) in its statement, saying the duo has “consistently demonstrated their unwavering commitment to workers and their families.” Harris announced last week that Walz would be her running mate, ending weeks of speculation over who would be her pick.

“Their records reflect a deep dedication to advancing labor rights and supporting working-class Americans,” the caucus said.

The critical labor union has yet to endorse former President Trump or Harris for the 2024 election, but it endorsed President Biden in 2020. The Teamsters told The Hill that it has traditionally endorsed a candidate after both conventions.

Teamsters President Sean O’Brien delivered a speech at the Republican National Convention last month, sparking speculation over whether the union would endorse the GOP nominee for president. The Democratic National Convention has not officially announced who will speak at its convention this month.

TNBC Chair James Curbeam said in a statement that Trump’s “record against Black people, women and workers is indefensible.”

“When people show you who they are, believe them and Trump showed us for 40 years who he really is: someone who is not for us,” Curbeam said. “Endorsing a candidate with his history would be a betrayal of the values that we have fought to uphold.”

The Hill has reached out to the TNBC and the Harris campaign for comment.
