Georgia’s former Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan (R) urged independents and Republicans to support Vice President Harris, saying voting for her means “you’re a patriot.”
“I can spend my time revving up this crowd but I’m certain I don’t have to talk anybody out of voting for Donald Trump here,” Duncan said. “So I’m going to focus my attention on the millions of Republicans and independents at home that are sick and tired of making excuses for Donald Trump.”
“If Republicans are being intellectually honest with ourselves, our party is not civil or conservative. It’s chaotic and crazy. And the only thing left to do is dump Trump,” he said to roaring applause.
Duncan received the wrath of his fellow Republicans during the 2020 presidential election when he sided with Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp (R) over Trump in certifying the election results. In his convention address, Duncan noted how he and his family needed security during that time period due to threats following Trump’s rhetoric on the election.
“These days our party acts more like a cult, a cult worshiping a felonious thug,” he said.
Duncan praised Harris’s “prosecutor mindset,” calling her “a steady hand who will bring leadership to the White House that Donald Trump could never do.”
“Let me be clear to my Republican friends at home: If you vote for Kamala Harris in 2024 you’re not a Democrat, you’re a patriot,” he said.
Duncan was not the only Republican who addressed the Democratic National Convention on Wednesday. Olivia Troye, a former aide to former Vice President Mike Pence, spoke before Duncan.
“I saw how Donald Trump undermined our intelligence community, our military leaders and ultimately our democratic process. Now, he’s doing it again,” Troye said.
