Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has been withdrawn from the South Carolina ballot, according to the state’s Election Commission.

The Alliance Party of South Carolina said in a Tuesday press release that its executive committee decided Monday evening to withdraw its nomination of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. for president of the United States.

“While the Party wishes Mr. Kennedy well, the Alliance Party of South Carolina and its candidates are dedicated to providing voters with a choice other than that provided by the Democratic and Republican Political Parties,” the group’s Chair Keisha Long said in the release.

The withdrawal follows Kennedy’s decision to suspend his campaign and back former President Trump late last week. He said his name would still be on the ballot in most states that lean Democratic or Republican but would be taken off in swing states.

“Our nominated candidates for elected office offer themselves — through their conduct, principles and policies — as an alternative to the choices presented by the two legacy parties. Seventy-One percent of the American people say they want to see a Third-Party option provided to them,” Long said in the release. “We and our candidates remain committed to achieving that goal with candidates who run to the finish line.”

Kennedy also joined Trump at a rally in Arizona Friday after he said he was suspending his campaign.

“Tonight I’m very pleased to welcome a man who has been an incredible champion for so many of these values that we all share, and we’ve shared them for a long time,” Trump said when introducing Kennedy at the rally.

The Hill has reached out to the Kennedy campaign.
