Harris wins New York

Vice President Harris won New York, an expected blue state victory, according to a projection from Decision Desk HQ.

The Empire State awards 28 electoral votes. The last time a Republican won New York was former President Reagan in 1984.

The Democratic stronghold was home to former President Trump, who was born in Queens. He was a longtime New York real estate tycoon before he relocated to Florida. His son Barron Trump is a a freshman at New York University.

Trump traveled to New York in October to speak at the Al Smith dinner, which is a Catholic charity event that presidential candidates traditionally join. Harris opted to skip the dinner and join it virtually.

Harris traveled to New York for a media blitz in early October, joining “The View,” Howard Stern’s radio show and Stephen Colbert’s late show in person. She also held a major New York City fundraiser in late September.

Trump held a rally at New York City’s Madison Square Garden less than two weeks before election day. He also was convicted in New York state court this spring on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records for illegally covering up a hush money payment to porn actor Stormy Daniels in 2016 with the intent of unlawfully influencing the presidential election.
