Ivanka Trump wears face mask during tour of Maryland food distributor

President Trump’s daughter and senior adviser Ivanka Trump wore a face mask while visiting a produce distributor in Maryland on Friday.

She was photographed wearing a black face covering adorned with an American flag pin while she toured Coastal Sunbelt Produce, a food service distributor located in Laurel, Md.

The visit was meant to highlight the Department of Agriculture’s $19 billion coronavirus aid program for farmers and ranchers launched last month, which includes funding for a program that helps suppliers whose businesses have been impacted by the pandemic to distribute food boxes to food banks, community organizations and nonprofits.

Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue, who also toured the facility Friday morning, wore an American flag–patterned face mask. The two officials were joined by Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan (R), who also wore his own face covering. The officials toured the Coast Sunbelt Produce facility and watched food boxes being assembled.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued guidance in April recommending Americans wear face coverings in public in order to prevent the asymptomatic spread of the novel coronavirus.

The president, however, has resisted wearing a face covering in public on recent trips to Arizona and Pennsylvania amid the pandemic. Trump said he was told it was not necessary that he wear one on a visit to a Phoenix mask facility last week, despite signs around the facility directing employees to wear masks.

He is tested daily for the novel coronavirus and has not reported a positive test.

Meanwhile, the White House issued guidance at the beginning of this week urging West Wing aides to wear face masks except when social distancing at their desks after two officials tested positive for COVID-19. An increased number of officials have been seen wearing face coverings since the new policy was issued.
