Conservative super-PAC ads rip GOP leaders over spending bill

A conservative super-PAC is airing radio ads hammering the top three House GOP leaders for negotiating a trillion-dollar spending package that didn’t directly challenge President Obama’s executive actions on immigration.

The ads, backed by $80,000 from the super-PAC arm of the Senate Conservatives Fund, will air for one week in the congressional districts of Speaker John Boehner (Ohio), Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (Calif.) and Majority Whip Steve Scalise (La.) — all of whom voted for the “cromnibus” spending bill.

{mosads}“Instead of fighting to defend the Constitution,” a female narrator says in one ad, “Speaker John Boehner schemed with the Democrat-controlled Senate to rush through a massive spending bill that fully funded Obamacare.

“And the president’s unlawful amnesty,” a male narrator says.

In each ad, the narrators urge constituents to call the leaders’ offices back home to complain about the legislation, which passed both the House and Senate and funds most of the government through next September.

“Americans asked Republican leaders to defund the president’s unlawful amnesty and pledged to run ads against them if they didn’t,” fund President Ken Cuccinelli said in a statement. “Unfortunately, these leaders didn’t listen so now the grassroots are taking action to hold them accountable.”

House conservatives on Capitol Hill fervently argued Republicans had more leverage in the lame-duck session to stop Obama’s immigration action by threatening to shut down the entire federal government before the holidays.

But GOP leaders disagreed, punting the immigration fight until early next year when they’ll try to pressure Obama to roll back his immigration actions by threatening to withhold funding for the Homeland Security Department.
