Lewis tells crowd at MLK event: ‘Never give in’

Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.) said Monday that there is a “moral obligation” to act and “speak up” when you see something that is not just.

“Never give in. Stand up. Speak up. When you’re seeing something that is not right, not fair, not just, you have a moral obligation to do something, to say something, and not be quiet,” Lewis told the attendees at the breakfast honoring Martin Luther King Jr.

His comments follow a weekend during which Donald Trump criticized the civil rights leader for saying the president-elect is not a “legitimate president.”

The president-elect then criticized Lewis, saying the congressman is “all talk” and “no action.”

{mosads}“Congressman John Lewis should spend more time on fixing and helping his district, which is in horrible shape and falling apart (not to mention crime infested) rather than falsely complaining about the election results. All talk, talk, talk – no action or results. Sad!” Trump said in several tweets.

Trump later wrote  that Lewis should help him “focus on the burning and crime infested inner-cities” in America.
