Dem rep to skip inauguration after running Twitter poll

Rep. Karen Bass (D-Calif.) on Tuesday announced she would boycott President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration after running a Twitter poll on the decision.

Bass on Sunday launched a poll asking whether she should attend the event, as dozens of Democrats announced they would skip it in the wake of Trump’s attacks on Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.).

On Tuesday, Bass declared the poll closed with 84 percent of respondents saying she should boycott Trump’s swearing-in.

In a Facebook Live video Sunday, Bass discussed her feelings about attending the inauguration, and asked for her constituents to share their thoughts on whether she should go.

“I know what my heart tells me and I know what my head tells me, but I want to know what you tell me,” she said.

{mosads}More than 40 House Democrats have announced they will forego attending Trump’s inauguration. That number increased sharply after Trump attacked Lewis, a civil rights leader and longtime congressman, on Twitter on Saturday.

Twitter allows users like Bass to create online polls, allowing others to weigh in on different topics and issues. While Bass said she was soliciting the opinions of her constituents, the social media site allows users from all over the world to vote in the polls.
