Dem rep blasts Trump: ‘I don’t honor him, I don’t respect him’

Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) said on Tuesday that she never intended to go to President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration, insisting that she doesn’t want anything to do with the real estate mogul.

“After I discovered who Trump is in the way he conducted himself, I was never going to go to the inauguration,” Waters said on MSNBC. “I never planned, I never contemplated even going near any of those activities or those events. I don’t like the way he has misled people, the way he has lied. I don’t like the way he’s disparaged folks.”

Waters cited a number of controversies that developed around Trump during his presidential bid, including allegations that he mocked a disabled journalist at a campaign rally last year.

Waters joined dozens of House Democrats who in recent days have announced that they will boycott Trump’s inauguration on Friday. That number drastically spiked after Trump attacked Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.) on Twitter on Saturday, saying that the civil rights icon was “all talk” and “no action or results.”

Trump was responding to Lewis’s announcement a day earlier that he would not attend the inauguration and did not see Trump as a “legitimate president.”
