Rep. Blake Farenthold (R-Texas) on Monday said he has never seen a storm like Harvey, which made landfall Friday and continues to bring rain and flooding to his state.
“I’ve grown up on the Texas Gulf Coast and have never seen a storm like this, with such wide-ranging effect,” he said on CNN’s “New Day.”
Farenthold said storms usually “blow through and are gone in a day, maybe two.”
“But this one is the gift that keeps on giving in the worst possible way.”
{mosads}Farenthold also said some areas in the state have no water, no power and no open grocery stores.
“No place to go,” he said. “We’re counting on [the Federal Emergency Management Agency] to get in with the food and water relief and the Red Cross to provide shelters.”
The storm made landfall Friday night as a category 4 hurricane and has since been downgraded.
CNN reported Monday about 13 million people are under flood watches and warnings in the region.
According to the National Weather Service, “Isolated storm totals may reach 50 inches over the upper Texas coast, including the Houston Galveston metropolitan area.”
President Trump is expected to travel to Texas on Tuesday amid ongoing recovering efforts.
