Scalise returns to Capitol

House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) is returning to the Capitol on Thursday for the first time since he was shot at a GOP baseball practice in June.

Scalise’s office sent out an email with a two-word subject line: “He’s back.”

The congressman himself also tweeted a message, along with a photo, on the day of his return.

Scalise will cast votes with his colleagues on Thursday morning and is expected to deliver a floor speech.

His return follows an appearance he made on CBS’s “60 Minutes,” which is set to air on Sunday.

His office said that he will be resuming work at the Capitol while completing an “extended period” of out-patient rehabilitation over the coming months.

A gunman on June 14 opened fire on Republicans practicing at a field in Alexandria, Va., for the annual Congressional Baseball Game.

Four people were shot: Scalise, a Capitol Police officer, a staffer for Rep. Roger Williams (R-Texas) and a Tyson Foods lobbyist. The gunman was shot dead at the scene by responding police.

Scalise spent weeks at the MedStar Washington Hospital Center to recover from critical injuries, undergoing multiple surgeries in the process. He told “60 Minutes” that the bullet “shattered” his femur and caused serious damage to his hip and pelvis.
