Maxine Waters calls on Kelly to apologize for lashing out at Dem congresswoman
Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) is calling on White House chief of staff John Kelly to apologize for his remarks towards Rep. Frederica Wilson (D-Fla.), saying Kelly has been “tainted by [President] Trump lying in the face of facts.”
“Gen. Kelly has been tainted by Trump lying in the face of facts. Hasn’t he seen the same video of Rep. Wilson that everyone else has seen?” Waters tweeted Saturday.
“If the wife and family of Sgt. Johnson feel they were disrespected by Trump, then they were disrespected. Period!” Waters continued. “Gen. Kelly, you earned 4 stars & had a successful career. Now you’ve fallen prey to a ‘moron’ in an effort to protect his career. Apologize.”

Earlier Saturday, Waters ripped members of the Trump administration, saying Trump’s White House “transforms everyone into liars.”
{mosads}Trump’s White House has continued to feud with Wilson after the congresswoman criticized Trump earlier this week for his call to the widow of a fallen U.S. service member.
Wilson was in a car with the fallen soldier’s family when Trump called, and the family confirmed her description of the call, which took place on speakerphone.
Wilson said the president told the widow her late husband “knew what he signed up for … but when it happens it hurts anyway.”
The mother of the slain soldier, Army Sgt. La David Johnson, told The Washington Post that the president disrespected the family with his call.
Kelly defended Trump’s handling of the call to the family and others during a rare appearance at the White House press briefing on Thursday.
Kelly also ripped into Wilson, calling her an “empty barrel” and criticizing her for her conduct at a 2015 event. But video released Friday appears to show that Kelly was incorrect in his accusation that she took credit for the funding of an FBI building in Miami in 2015.
Wilson slammed the White House, saying it was trying to “assassinate [her] character.”
“They are assassinating their own because everything they say is coming out and shown to be a lie,” she told The New York Times.
The White House defended Kelly on Friday, with White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders calling it “highly inappropriate” to debate Kelly, a retired four-star Marine general.
“If you want to go after Gen. Kelly, that’s up to you, but I think if you want to get into a debate with a four-star Marine general, I think that’s something highly inappropriate,” Sanders said in a White House press briefing.
