Dem lawmaker fires back at Trump: You didn’t fire Kelly for lying

Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.) shot back at President Trump’s calls for a Washington Post reporter to be fired over a misleading tweet about Trump’s rally, saying Trump didn’t fire his chief of staff for making an inaccurate statement about a Democratic lawmaker.

“Your Chief of Staff lied about @RepWilson when are you going to fire him?” Gallego tweeted Saturday.

The lawmaker was referring to John Kelly claiming that Rep. Frederica Wilson (D-Fla.) had taken credit for securing funding for an FBI building, despite a video showing that Wilson hadn’t taken credit for the funds. {mosads}

Kelly made the comments against Wilson after she shared details of a phone call between Trump and the widow of a fallen soldier.

Gallego’s tweet was in response to Trump’s attacks on Washington Post reporter Dave Weigel over a tweet Weigel posted that showed empty seats at a Trump rally Friday night.

However, the photo was from before the rally began and there was a large crowd at the event.

Trump first demanded that Weigel apologize for the tweet.

The reporter apologized almost immediately after Trump’s demand and noted that he had deleted the tweet after another reporter had pointed out that it was inaccurate.

Trump then called for Weigel to be fired after the apology.
