Female GOP House members to wear red, white and blue to State of the Union
Republican female House members intend to wear red, white and blue to Tuesday night’s State of the Union address as a show of support for the military.
Rep. Martha McSally (R-Ariz.), who is running for the Senate, told USA Today that a female member emailed other representatives about the idea, saying it came from a constituent who suggested the color scheme would honor the flag and the troops.
House members have reportedly invited female Republican senators and Cabinet members to wear red, white and blue as well.
{mosads}Democratic House members, meanwhile, will wear black to Tuesday’s speech to show solidarity with the “Me Too” and “Time’s Up” initiatives, which fight systemic sexual harassment.
A number of other Democrats plan to boycott Trump’s speech.
Several Democratic representatives posed for and shared a group photo Tuesday afternoon in which they are all wearing black and donning “Time’s Up” pins.
I’m wearing black with @HouseDemWomen to say #TimesUp on sexual harassment. All women – whether they’re working on Capitol Hill or in restaurants or courtrooms or campuses or hospitals – deserve equality & respect.
