Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) fired back at late-night host Stephen Colbert on Saturday after Colbert filmed a segment on Capitol Hill mocking Nunes over his recently released intelligence memo, saying the segment showed conservatives “are under attack.”

“Well, I think this is the danger that we have in this country, this is an example of it,” Nunes, the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, told Fox News’s Neil Cavuto.

“The left controls not only the universities in this country, but they also control Hollywood in this country, and the mainstream media,” he continued. “So … conservatives in this country are under attack and, I think this is a great example of it.”

“I hope they continue to do it.”

In a segment that aired on Friday’s “The Late Show,” Colbert traveled to Capitol Hill to release his own “memo” to lawmakers. Two lawmakers appeared in the segment — Rep. Adam Schiff (Calif.), the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, and Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.).

Colbert presented Schiff with his own “memo” similar to the two documents released by Republicans and Democrats on the committee in recent weeks. Colbert asked the California Democrat to read the memo out loud.

“It says, ‘Devin Nunes is a,’ and then it’s redacted,” Schiff said.

“We’re not allowed to release that information,” Colbert said. “CBS won’t let me say it on air either.”

Later in the segment, Colbert visited Flake’s office, saying he was the “only Republican” who would read his memo on television.

“Do you have any guesses as to what it might say underneath?” Colbert said, referring to the redaction about Nunes.

“Californian? Public servant? Former dairy farmer?” Flake guessed.

“Former dairy farmer? Really? Because he seems to be milking it right now,” Colbert replied.

Colbert’s segment comes weeks after the two dueling memos were released on Capitol Hill. The memo authored by GOP staff for Nunes alleges abuse of surveillance powers at the Justice Department, allegations Democrats sought to rebut with their own memo.
