Pro-gun group posts rep’s cellphone number online

Freedom Caucus Chairman Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.) said Thursday he has stopped answering phone calls and text messages after a gun rights group posted his cellphone number on their Facebook page.

The National Association for Gun Rights urged their supporters to call Meadows and dozens of other Republicans to pressure them to oppose the $1.3 trillion omnibus because it includes a narrow provision called Fix NICS, which encourages states to inform the federal government when a gun buyer fails a background check. {mosads}

{mosads}Many conservative lawmakers like Meadows wanted the Fix NICS provision linked to a GOP provision allowing gun owners to carry concealed weapons across state lines. Meadows ultimately voted against the omnibus, but he told reporters after the vote that his cellphone was blowing up after his number was posted online.

A Meadows spokesman declined to comment.

The National Association for Gun Rights says it’s opposed to any bill to which Fix NICS is attached.

“Judgement day is here for ‘pro-gun’ politicians. Will they stand with gun owners or with [Democratic Sen. Dianne] Feinstein?” the gun group wrote on their Facebook page. 

“The following Congressmen promised to vote against any bill containing FIX-NICS if it didn’t have Reciprocity with it. Were they lying or telling the truth? We’ll know following TODAY’s vote.”

“Call ALL of them and urge them to OPPOSE the spending bill that contains Feinstein-backed ‘FIX NICS.’ “
