Ryan to team up with McCarthy on fundraising tour: report

Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) is planning a series of fundraisers alongside House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) to support two GOP groups focused on defending House Republicans in the midterm elections.

Ryan and McCarthy will fundraise with Vice President Pence at events for Protect the House, a McCarthy–Pence fundraising group, according to Politico.

{mosads}In May, Ryan and McCarthy will also attend events in Illinois, Washington and New York for the Congressional Leadership Fund — the House Republicans’ political action committee — according to the report.

Ryan and McCarthy will also go to Pennsylvania and Texas in June for fundraisers for both organizations, Politico said.

McCarthy is Ryan’s pick to succeed him when he retires from Congress at the end of his term.

Politico noted that House Republicans without Ryan might face difficulty raising the large amounts of money Ryan was able to attract because of the network he cultivated during the 2012 presidential race, when Ryan ran as Mitt Romney’s vice presidential candidate.

It is not yet clear if donors will be more likely to close their wallets after Ryan’s retirement.
