California Rep. Adam Schiff (D) slammed President Trump on Thursday after Trump appeared to put some of the blame for several explosive devices mailed to top Democrats and CNN on the mainstream media.
In a tweet, Schiff challenged Trump’s assertion earlier in the day that “a very big part of the anger” felt in today’s society was a result of “purposely false and inaccurate reporting of the Mainstream Media.”
{mosads} “You say there are good people on both sides of a neo-Nazi rally. Suggest that immigrants are all murders [sic], rapists and gang members,” Schiff tweeted Thursday.
“Praise a politician who assaulted a reporter,” he continued. “And it’s CNN’s fault someone sent them a bomb? We know you have no decency, but have you no shame?”
CNN President Jeff Zucker on Wednesday tore into Trump and the White House for “a total and complete lack of understanding at the White House about the seriousness of their continued attacks on the media.”
CNN’s New York headquarters was evacuated on Wednesday due to a suspicious package addressed to former CIA Director John Brennan, who works as a contributor at rival network MSNBC.
“The President, and especially the White House Press Secretary, should understand their words matter,” Zucker said in a statement. “Thus far, they have shown no comprehension of that.”
White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders condemned the attacks Wednesday, which targeted top Democrats including former Presidents Obama and Clinton.
“We condemn the attempted violent attacks recently made against President Obama, President Clinton, Secretary Clinton, and other public figures,” Sanders said.
