Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y), who is set to become the House Judiciary Committee chairman after the Democrats recaptured the House in the midterm elections, said on Tuesday night that President Trump is about “to learn that he’s not above the law.”
“This election was about accountability,” Nadler told CNN. “Donald Trump may not like hearing it but for the first time, his administration is going to be held accountable.”
“He’s going to learn that he’s not above the law.”
{mosads}Though Nadler said his committee would focus on looking into the Trump administration’s immigration, environmental and health-care policies, the New York Democrat said his committee is not currently “planning to do impeachment proceedings,” pending the outcome of special counsel Robert Mueller’s probe into Russia’s election interference and any possible ties between Trump’s presidential campaign and Moscow.
“We’ll see where the Mueller investigation goes,” he said. “I think it’s way too early to talk about impeachment. We have to see what the Mueller investigation comes up with.”
Trump warned on Wednesday morning that he would respond to any House Democratic efforts to investigate the White House with counterinvestigations “at the Senate level.”
“If the Democrats think they are going to waste Taxpayer Money investigating us at the House level, then we will likewise be forced to consider investigating them for all of the leaks of Classified Information, and much else, at the Senate level. Two can play that game!” Trump tweeted.
