Greene, Trump supporters create fake mug shots in solidarity

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) expressed her solidarity with former President Trump by posting a photoshopped MAGA mug shot shortly after he was booked and released at the Fulton County Jail, a trend that has now gone viral.

Greene shared an image Thursday night of her face on the background of mug shots taken at the Fulton County Jail. On X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, she called Trump’s arrest in the Georgia election case “persecution, not prosecution.”

She added that she “stands” with Trump against Georgia’s Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis (D), whom she called “nothing more than a political hitman tasked with taking out [President] Biden’s top political opponent.”

Greene later shared Trump’s history-making mug shot on the platform as well, saying “This is the photo that will win the 2024 Presidential election.”

Trump surrendered Thursday night at the Fulton County Jail on charges related to efforts to overturn the 2020 election. It was his fourth indictment this year, but the first time he, or any other current or former president, has had a mug shot taken.

Since Greene’s post, some of Trump’s supporters have started sharing their own mock mug shots in support of the former president. Others have been sharing a mock booking form with Trump’s signature and the outline of a middle finger rather than a fingerprint.

Many have been using the hashtag “#IstandwithPresidentTrump” on social media.

Capitalizing on his first mug shot, the Trump campaign is also selling merchandise, including T-shirts, mugs, koozies and bumper stickers, featuring the image and the phrase “Never surrender.”

Trump, in separate interviews with Fox News Digital and Newsmax after his arrest, described the process as “very sad” and uncomfortable as he recounted being processed and having his mug shot taken.

“They insisted on a mug shot, and I agreed to do that,” he told Fox Digital. “This is the only time I’ve ever taken a mug shot.”

Mug shots of Trump’s co-defendants, such as former lawyers John Eastman, Rudy Giuliani and Sidney Powell, have also circulated in recent days, as the defendants in the indictment face a Friday deadline to surrender.
