McCaul set to serve as ranking member of House Committee on Foreign Affairs
Rep. Mike McCaul (R-Texas) is slated to be the next ranking member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs during the 116th Congress.
McCaul (R-Texas) edged out Reps. Joe Wilson (R-S.C.) and Ted Yoho (R-Fla.) in the race to be the top Republican on the panel.
The Texas Republican previously served as the chairman of the House Committee on Homeland Security.
In an interview earlier this month, McCaul told The Hill he hopes to “elevate the stature of the Foreign Affairs Committee” in the way he did Homeland.
McCaul — who previously worked as a federal prosecutor specializing in counterterrorism — pitched the steering committee on his national security and foreign policy expertise.
