Rep. Lauren Boebert’s (R-Colo.) Democratic challenger criticized her Sunday for the behavior that got her thrown out of a performance of “Beetlejuice” the prior weekend.
“It’s just another notch in the belt of embarrassment,” congressional candidate Adam Frisch said in an interview on MSNBC’s “Symone.” “And it’s horrible to get into that kind of conversation. She even lied about her lies. So, for the end of the day, the voters are sick and tired of this embarrassment, whether it’s an audience member watching a theater performance.”
Boebert was escorted out of a Denver theater during the “Beetlejuice” performance for vaping, singing and “causing a disturbance,” according to an incident report obtained by The Denver Post. A spokesperson for the congresswoman denied that she had been vaping, but video later surfaced showing her doing so before she was removed from the venue.
“But what’s even worse,” Frisch continued, “is her embarrassment in the halls of Congress and those committee meetings when she’s not focused on the job. She’s very, very focused on herself, and there’s real issues out there with rural access to health care, reproductive right protection.”
Frisch went on to attack Boebert for her position on abortion.
“Let’s remember that Rep. Boebert wants to ban all abortions across the country as well. And one of the reasons we’re doing so well is because we’re focused on the task at hand, which is what do the voters want and not this ‘angertainment industry’ that she’s so proud of participating in, even in her off time,” Frisch said.
Boebert apologized Friday for causing harm and bringing “unwanted attention” to Denver, after the theater episode garnered significant public criticism.
“The past few days have been difficult and humbling, and I’m truly sorry for the unwanted attention my Sunday evening in Denver has brought to the community,” Boebert said in a Facebook post. “While none of my actions or words as a private citizen that night were intended to be malicious or meant to cause harm, the reality is they did and I regret that.”
Frisch mounted a previous challenge for Boebert’s House seat in 2022 and lost by 546 votes, or less than half a percentage point. He conceded before the automatic recount was complete.
Frisch has launched a new campaign to win her seat in 2024.
