Conservative leaders endorse Jordan for Speaker
Conservative leaders from multiple organizations signed a letter Friday announcing their collective endorsement of Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) to become the next House Speaker, citing his consistent conservative record.
“Congressman Jim Jordan has consistently been on the front lines for the Conservative Movement and all Americans since elected,” the leaders said in a joint statement. “His voting record, chairmanship of the House Freedom Caucus, and chairmanship of the committees on the Judiciary and Weaponization of the Federal Government speak to his effectiveness.”
The coalition of GOP groups claimed his accomplishments — including passing “the strongest immigration and border enforcement bill ever” and holding the “corrupt Biden DOJ and FBI accountable” — speak to his abilities as a leader.
“This moment comes at a time when our country is at a critical crossroad,” the leaders said. “Congress now has a choice to elect an establishment leader who adopts the same methods that infect the swamp or choose a proven and effective conservative leader who will unite the party.”
The letter comes after former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) was ousted from the leadership position on Tuesday, following a historic vote to vacate the Speakership led by Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.). Eight Republicans, including Gaetz, and all of the Democrats voted to take the gavel away.

The conservative leaders in their endorsement argued that Americans “deserve a Speaker who will fight for them.” They said they believe Jordan will do that.
“Conservatives should support a leader who will hold the Biden Administration accountable, cut reckless spending, and change Washington forever,” the letter states.
The endorsement comes from a number of organizations, including the Conservative Partnership Institute, chaired by former Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.), the Conservative Leadership PAC, the Conservative Partnership Institute and the Center for Renewing America.
House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.) and Jordan are the top two contenders in the race of the next House Speaker. .
Jordan has already been endorsed by former President Trump and outgoing Sen. Mike Braun (R-Ind.)
The Ohio Republican, the first chairman of the House Freedom Caucus, announced his run for Speaker on Wednesday, one day after McCarthy was voted out of the position.
Gaetz said Jordan or Scalise would be a “monumental upgrade” over McCarthy.
