Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) is reportedly writing a memoir chronicling her journey from refugee to congresswoman.
The book, “This is What America Looks Like,” will be published by HarperCollins imprint Dey Street Books, Politico reported Monday.
{mosads}Omar, the first Somali-American member of Congress, came to the U.S. as a refugee at the age of 12.
She is also one of the nation’s first two Muslim-American women to serve in Congress, along with Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.)
Ahead of her swearing-in, Omar posted a photo on Twitter of her and her father at the same Washington D.C. airport where she says she arrived as a refugee.
Omar, who is also the first lawmaker to wear a hijab after receiving a religious exemption to a head covering ban on the House floor, has called her election a rejection of “religious bigotry.”
