House Republicans are canceling their annual retreat set for next week due to the ongoing partial government shutdown, aides confirmed on Wednesday.
The House GOP planned to hold their retreat at the Greenbrier Resort in White Sulphur Springs, W.Va., from next Wednesday through Friday.
But the annual retreat is postponed as the shutdown drags on more more than a month with no deal to end it yet in sight.
House and Senate Republicans had held joint retreats in recent years when they were both in the majority, but not this year. Senate Republicans held their retreat at Nationals Park last Thursday and returned to the Capitol later in the day for votes.
Senate Republicans hosted former White House political strategist Karl Rove, who advised them not to become overly reliant on their conservative base heading into 2020.
