GOP rep on Stone: We can’t investigate if witnesses are ‘dishonest’
Rep. Chris Stewart (R-Utah) on Friday said he was angered by allegations that Roger Stone, an informal adviser to the Trump campaign in 2016, lied to the House Intelligence Committee.
Stewart, who’s a member of the committee, told CNN that the panel would be unable to function if it can’t receive truthful answers from witnesses connected to the investigation of Russian election interference.
{mosads}”One of the indictments is he lied to my committee, the House Intelligence Committee,” Stewart said. “If he did that, that infuriates me. We can’t do our work if witnesses are dishonest with us.”
Stewart went on to say that there was no accusation in special counsel Robert Mueller’s indictment of coordination between Stone and Russian intelligence agencies, who are suspected to be behind the 2016 hack of Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton’s campaign emails as well as the theft of emails from the Democratic National Committee.
“One of the indictments is he lied to my committee, the House Intelligence Committee,” says GOP @RepChrisStewart reacting to Roger Stone’s indictment.

Stone was accused in an indictment to have made “multiple false statements” to the House Intelligence Committee about his contacts with and about “Organization 1,” which is widely believed to be WikiLeaks.
“This is now the second witness who has been indicted for or pled guilty to making false statements in testimony before our Committee,” Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), the head of the committee, said Friday. “These prosecutions should make it abundantly clear that those who appear before congressional investigators and attempt to mislead us will be held to account.”
